Mojang announced at Minecraft Live that the Sift, a dimension originally featured in Minecraft Dungeons 2, will be integrated into Minecraft in 2027. This marks the first addition of a new dimension to Minecraft since the game officially launched in its 1.0 state in 2011.
The Sift was previewed during the Minecraft Live showcase, revealing it as an ethereal, spirit-world-like realm. It is slated to arrive in both Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition in 2027. Prior to its inclusion in Minecraft, the Sift will play a significant role in Minecraft Dungeons 2, a Diablo-style action RPG spin-off scheduled for release on September 29.
Currently, Minecraft features three primary dimensions: the Overworld, the Nether, and the End. Since its 1.0 release in November 2011, Mojang has focused on expanding the content within these existing dimensions rather than introducing entirely new ones.
Beyond the new dimension, Minecraft Live also revealed that future game updates will introduce ice caves as a new underground biome. Within these ice caves, players will encounter the Frozen Zombie mob, be able to craft and use ice balls similar to those used by the enemies, and mine ice crystals. Additionally, more Sound Effects packs are expected to become available on the Minecraft Marketplace before the end of the year.
In other news, the Minecraft World theme park at Chessington World of Adventures is set to open alongside a Minecraft-themed hotel in 2027. The park will feature a roller coaster named Escape the Nether. Mojang also announced a Wilderness Bound community challenge and teased a more comprehensive creator platform for in-game content creators.
Mojang also confirmed that Minecraft will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 starting October 27, further expanding the game's extensive platform availability. These announcements indicate a busy period of development and content for the Minecraft franchise.
