Video game critic and YouTube personality Jacob Geller has been removed from the gaming channel MinnMax following allegations of past sexual misconduct. Geller, who has over a million subscribers on YouTube and cohosts The MinnMax Show, was ousted after accusations surfaced on September 30.
The allegations first appeared on X (formerly Twitter), claiming Geller was fired from the University of North Carolina's college radio station in 2016 after an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct. These claims gained traction on social media and the gaming forum ResetEra.
Further digging by users led to records from the University of North Carolina, which were ordered to be released by the North Carolina Supreme Court in 2020. These records detail violations of the institution's sexual assault policy by students between 2007 and 2020. Geller's name appears in these records, indicating a violation of policies on "Sexual Assault or Sexual Violence" and a resulting "definite suspension for one semester," which aligns with the initial allegations.
MinnMax initially addressed the allegations on September 30 via its Discord server, calling them "deeply upsetting" and stating that internal discussions were underway regarding next steps. On October 1, the channel released a formal statement on Bluesky announcing Geller's departure.
"Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax," the statement read. "He won’t be on content moving forward and we won’t be publicly airing this week’s episode of The MinnMax Show. We’re in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time."
Outside of MinnMax, the podcast Cane and Rinse also released a statement confirming it would be removing all episodes featuring Geller from its platform. This publication reached out to Geller for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
