Mob Entertainment has laid off "almost all" staff members of its Escape From Playtime team, according to a former lead game designer at the studio. The news emerged on November 4, 2026, just over two weeks after the online survival co-op game launched on October 21, 2026.
"Today is a tough day," the former designer wrote on LinkedIn. "Mob has laid off almost the entire Escape From Playtime team, including myself. If anyone knows of any work that I or any of the team affected can do, please reach out."
The game is based on the Poppy Playtime franchise and allows up to eight players to scavenge for resources while avoiding monstrous mascots. The layoffs prompted concern among players regarding the game's future.
However, Mob Entertainment's community manager, Tyler Scott Sanchez, addressed the situation on the game's official Discord channel, confirming that development on Escape From Playtime will continue. Sanchez stated that the studio has already begun implementing changes based on player feedback, including improvements to matchmaking, the order of enemy introductions, and efforts to make the existing map more diverse and engaging.
"We've had to make the incredibly tough decision to part ways with some talented members of our team who helped bring Escape From Playtime to life," Sanchez said. "We're incredibly grateful for everything they've contributed, and we want to take a moment to recognize the people behind the work."
While acknowledging the uncertainty these layoffs may cause, Sanchez assured players of transparency and ongoing communication regarding the development process.
