One Grand Theft Auto V player has been undertaking a daily modding project, attempting to transform Rockstar's decade-old title into a precursor to GTA 6 or to simply break the game. This particular endeavor involved introducing UFO sightings into the game world. The mod, titled "UFO Sightings," is a script designed to spawn a flying saucer at random map locations, primarily at night to foster an eerie atmosphere.
The modder initially struggled to find any alien visitors, spending considerable time flying around Mount Chiliad during daylight hours, which only resulted in encounters with the game's usual hostile NPCs. Upon realizing the mod's nocturnal constraint and adjusting the in-game clock, the player was alerted to a "UFO sighting reported" pop-up on a distant part of the map. Promptly heading to the location, the player, who possesses Superman-like abilities within the game, expected a subtle, mysterious encounter.
However, the reality deviated from the envisioned scenario of a distant, ambiguous anomaly. The UFO materialized approximately 30 feet above a downtown Los Santos intersection. Instead of a subtle presence, it emitted a powerful, flashing light, described as being intense enough to potentially cause problems for individuals with epilepsy. The modder speculates that their own in-game actions, such as firing laser eyes at the craft, may have prompted it to cease its flashing and ascend, eventually disappearing from view. The experience left the player contemplating the ambiguity of the event, questioning whether the sighting truly occurred or if it was merely an imagined phenomenon within the game's altered state.
This modding effort is part of a larger, ongoing project to modify GTA 5 daily, documented by the player, with previous experiments including the addition of vehicle-mounted missile launchers capable of destroying entire city blocks and integrating Hulk-like abilities into the game.
