The distinct yellow filter that once characterized Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag can now be removed thanks to a fan-made mod. This graphical alteration, often dubbed the "Mexican filter" or colloquially as the "piss filter," aimed to impart a tropical or warm feel to the game's visuals but was not universally embraced by players.
The mod, titled "ACBlackFlag Natural Colors," is a Reshade preset created by a modder named Blu. It promises to "remove the ugly yellow filter from the game and correct oversaturated colors," offering a more natural aesthetic. This allows the vibrant Caribbean environments and their waters to appear with more accurate coloration.
Before and after comparisons highlight the significant impact of the filter removal, revealing a "dehydrated" look in the original presentation. The mod requires the latest version of Reshade for installation.
In addition to the color correction, other mods can enhance the game further. The ACBlackFlagFix mod offers the ability to uncap the cutscene framerate, enable cloth animations at 60 fps, and remove pillarboxing. A separate "Fast Launch" mod also expedites the startup sequence by skipping introductory videos.
These enhancements collectively offer a refined visual and performance experience for players revisiting or experiencing Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
