The upcoming beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will include a full campaign mission for the first time in the franchise's history. Activision announced new details about the beta, which will be split into two sessions.

The first session, running from August 21st to August 25th, is exclusive to players who have pre-ordered the game and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This early access period will feature five 6v6 multiplayer maps: Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette, and Lotus. Players can engage in several familiar game modes, including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, and Search & Destroy, alongside the new Inflation mode. The Kill Block mode will also be playable in both 3v3 and 10v10 variants.

A full campaign mission, "Entrenched," which was recently showcased in a vignette, will be playable during this first beta session. This marks a significant departure from previous Call of Duty betas, which traditionally focused solely on multiplayer content. The inclusion of campaign content aims to draw in a wider audience, as historically, a smaller percentage of the player base engages with the campaign mode.

The second, open beta session will take place from August 28th to September 1st, expanding access to all players on the same platforms, with the addition of the Nintendo Switch 2. This open beta will include all content from the first session, plus new additions. Notably, the upcoming Warzone map, Zodiac, from the free-to-play battle royale mode, will be playable. The launch timing for the full Warzone update remains unclear, with possibilities of it coinciding with Modern Warfare 4's release or arriving later in the year.

Additionally, the second weekend of the beta will feature Ground War, the combined arms mode first introduced in Modern Warfare (2019). This mode will be available on two maps: Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium. A preview of the Zodiac Warzone map is also slated to be shown during the remote Call of Duty: Next event on August 21st, shortly before the beta's public launch.

Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 23rd for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
