Modern Warfare 4 Deploys Fan-Favorite Shipment Map Just Four Days After Launch

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has received a significant update, introducing the highly anticipated Shipment map. This iconic, fan-favourite arena is available today, a mere four days after the game's launch on October 23rd, setting a new record for the speed of its inclusion in a Call of Duty title.

Shipment, first appearing in the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007, is renowned for its small size and intense, fast-paced combat. While other Call of Duty sub-franchises have featured similar small-scale maps, such as Nuketown, Shipment has consistently offered a unique and chaotic multiplayer experience.

Developer Infinity Ward had previously announced an October 27th release date for Shipment in a pre-launch blog post. While its eventual arrival was expected, its presence so soon after the game's debut is noteworthy. Typically, Shipment maps are integrated a few weeks post-launch, often coinciding with the start of a game's first live service season. It has been a recurring feature in recent Call of Duty titles, including Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2 (2022), and Modern Warfare 3 (2023), with variations like Shipment 1944 appearing in other entries.

Historically, Shipment's early deployment has often been speculated as a strategic move to re-engage players as concurrent player counts begin to dip. Its popularity as a map for rapid weapon levelling and challenge completion is well-documented, frequently leading to higher kill counts than on larger maps.

While Infinity Ward has not yet confirmed if a dedicated 24/7 Shipment playlist will accompany the map's release, this has been a common feature with past iterations and is considered likely. The new version of Shipment retains its classic layout but is situated within an environment inspired by Modern Warfare 4's global locations. This iteration presents a more urban, harbour-adjacent shipping yard setting, featuring Soviet-era concrete buildings and the signature shipping containers.

Coinciding with this map update, Modern Warfare 4 is also gearing up for its first season, which is scheduled to begin on November 6th, just two weeks after the game's launch. The early rollout of the Shipment map, preceding the official season start, presents an interesting scheduling choice by Infinity Ward.
