Players diving into the early access for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ extraction mode have encountered a peculiar and frustrating bug: spawning directly in the path of an oncoming vehicle. This issue can end a player's session before it even truly begins, as there appears to be no spawn protection.
DMZ, which is now accessible to those who have pre-ordered Modern Warfare 4, utilizes random spawn points on its Hajin map. These spawns are often situated on the map's periphery, offering players a moment to strategize. However, one particular spawn point has been identified as being directly in the middle of a road. If a player spawns here at the precise moment an enemy patrol vehicle is driving by, they are run over and eliminated instantly.
Footage shared on Reddit by users like grillimperator and Deep-Operation-3552 illustrates the absurdity of the situation. In some instances, players had a brief window to evade the vehicle, while others were immediately flattened after the infil cutscene concluded. The timing of the "Welcome to the DMZ" alert often coincides with the player's demise, adding to the comical yet infuriating nature of the bug. The loss of all acquired gear upon death in DMZ exacerbates the frustration, especially when venturing into a match with valuable equipment.
Thankfully, Infinity Ward has acknowledged and addressed this specific problem. A recent DMZ patch included notes stating, "Fixed some instances where enemy AI could run over players while infilling." This suggests the particular spawn location has been adjusted or removed.
Modern Warfare 4's full launch, including its traditional multiplayer mode, is scheduled for Friday, October 23rd. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The campaign has already received positive reception on Steam, with some players even completing its hardest difficulty, YOLO, which features a single-life stipulation.
