Infinity Ward has provided a first glimpse of "Kill Block," a new multiplayer experience coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. This mode features an ever-changing arena constructed from hundreds of distinct map variations, offering a dynamic, procedurally generated combat space.

Kill Block will be playable for the first time by attendees of Fanatics Fest NYC, taking place from July 16th to 19th at New York City's Javits Center. This marks the initial opportunity for the public to experience Modern Warfare 4's multiplayer gameplay. Notably, there will be no public alpha or limited-time test preceding this event, restricting early access exclusively to those present at the festival.

Kill Block Gameplay Details

The Kill Block mode is designed around a "Gunfight" format, supporting both 3v3 and a new 10v10 configuration at launch. Each map within Kill Block is composed of three sections, drawing inspiration from classic Modern Warfare maps or introducing entirely new designs. These layouts will reconfigure between matches, utilizing "Slabs"—map sections that form the outer and central areas—to create over 500 potential map configurations at the game's release. Players in these Gunfight-style matches will begin with identical, randomized loadouts, including weapons, Lethals, and Tacticals. The developer has indicated that custom loadouts are expected to become available once more traditional multiplayer modes are introduced to Kill Block post-launch.

Debut and Future Prospects

The choice to showcase Kill Block as the first playable multiplayer element, rather than traditional modes like Team Deathmatch, highlights its significance as a new offering. The absence of a central livestream for the Fanatics Fest event means those unable to attend will not have immediate access to view the gameplay. Activision has not yet confirmed a Call of Duty: Next showcase for this year, leaving the beta later this summer as the next anticipated opportunity to see more multiplayer content, unless Infinity Ward releases additional footage beforehand.

Modern Warfare 4 is slated for release on October 23rd for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Further details on the design philosophy behind Kill Block can be found on the official Call of Duty blog.
