Modern Warfare 4 will see the return of its popular DMZ extraction mode, enhanced with a new social hub called Forward Operating Base (FOB) on Hajin. This ambitious space aims to serve as a central point for players between matches, allowing for social interaction with teammates, loadout management, weapon testing, and expanded loot storage. The FOB evolves alongside player progression, unlocking new features and customization options as players level up.
FOB Features and Progression
The FOB offers several key areas designed to deepen the DMZ experience. Players can manage their loadout and operator status, upgrading traits and preparing for their next deployment. A significant upgrade from the DMZ beta in Modern Warfare 2, the FOB addresses the previous mode's limited storage capacity, allowing players to store weapons, valuables, and ingredients for the 3D printer.
Progression in DMZ is tied to a dedicated track that extends to level 70. As players advance, they unlock new FOB stations and content. These include:
- 3D Printer: This station allows players to craft gear using Printer Resources and 3D Printer Ingredients. It is also used to upgrade other FOB stations.
- Gunsmith: Players can use in-game DMZ Cash to purchase weapon attachments and build new weapons. Access to building more attachments is tied to the weapon's level and shared unlocks, with weapon manuals needed to expand building capabilities.
- Vendor: A rotating selection of weapons and items are available for purchase with DMZ Cash, encouraging players to check back regularly.
- Bounty Leaderboard: This feature tracks top-performing PvP bounty hunters.
- Boss Board: Players can purchase intel to hunt down powerful adversaries, including Lieutenants and Commanders.
- Dog Tag Case: A display area for Dog Tags collected from defeated operators.
- Stash/Loadout: An expanded area for storing various loot types, including weapons, gear, and 3D printer ingredients, alongside a section to equip gear for the next infiltration.
- DMZ Orders: These mission directives guide players, introduce the DMZ narrative, and challenge them to master the exclusion zone.
- Firing Range: A dedicated area for testing weapons, optics, and practicing aim at targets ranging from close to over 100 meters.
- Survival Kits: Themed loot packs that can be opened and used for gearing up or crafting.
Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. DMZ mode is included as part of the base game, moving away from its free-to-play integration with Warzone.
