Modern Warfare 4's DMZ Mode Plagued by Server Crashes and Lost Loot

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's new extraction mode, DMZ, is currently experiencing significant server instability, leading to frustrating instances where players are losing loot acquired during matches. The mode, which launched into early access ahead of the game's full release, has been met with positive reception, but these technical issues are overshadowing the early experience for some.

While loot that players extracted and brought back into DMZ as part of their loadout remains safe, any items gathered within a match that ends due to a server crash are lost. Infinity Ward has acknowledged the problem and stated that a fix has been deployed. A statement on Twitter/X from the official Call of Duty Updates account confirmed that players disconnecting due to this specific issue would retain their starting equipment and progression, but not the loot collected during the affected match.

Despite this confirmation, some players continue to report ongoing problems. The nature of extraction modes makes it difficult to definitively determine the exact state of a player's inventory upon disconnection, and there's a potential for exploitation if systems are too lenient. Nevertheless, the loss of rare or valuable items due to technical failures is a significant point of frustration for those affected.

This situation echoes similar issues encountered with Black Ops 7's Endgame mode upon its launch last year. That PvE extraction mode also suffered from players losing all progress and rewards when dying or failing to extract, including instances caused by game crashes. While those issues were eventually resolved, they created a poor initial impression for players who invested considerable time into grinding.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set for its full release on October 23. The game's campaign and the DMZ mode are currently available for owners of the title.
