Mondo has announced two new limited-edition Masters of the Universe figures, drawing inspiration from the 2002 animated series. The first is a 1/12-scale figure of Keldor, the villainous alter ego of Skeletor before his disfigurement. This collectible set includes Keldor's signature weapons, an environmental base, a fabric cape, a vial of acid, and multiple swappable hands and head sculpts. One of the included heads depicts Keldor's disfigured face after a failed attempt to attack King Randor with acid, which later led to further disfigurement by Hordak.
The Keldor figure is priced at $115 and will be available for preorder on the Mondo Store. "We absolutely can't wait for Masters of the Universe fans to see the incredible work the team did on this Keldor figure. The design, sculpt, and paint are just next-level and truly pushing what is possible in the 1/12 figure space," said Mondo senior creative director Peter Santa-Maria.
Mondo is also releasing a 1/6-scale figure of Panthor, Skeletor's feline companion. This impressive figure measures 12 inches long and 18 inches tall with its armor equipped. A notable feature of the Panthor figure is its flocked faux fur, designed to replicate a realistic texture. The figure also includes a saddle compatible with Mondo's sixth-scale Skeletor figure.
The flocked Panthor figure will be available for $525 and can be purchased through the Mondo store or at San Diego Comic-Con. "Flocked Panthor truly is a beast," Santa-Maria added. "We have been working hard to get this release perfectly dialed in, and we are proud to say that it is worth the wait. A flocked 1/6 scale figure of this size is going to be a major focal point of any Masters of the Universe collection."
These figure releases coincide with a renewed interest in the Masters of the Universe franchise. The original animated series is receiving a Blu-ray upgrade, with its Blu-ray release scheduled for August 25. Later this year, a new Blu-ray box set for the 2002 reboot series is also planned. This updated version of the 2002 series was previously released on DVD in 2009 but has been out of print for some time. It will be available for purchase in November.
