Monster Hunter Rise, which has surpassed 20 million units sold worldwide, has officially launched on Android and iOS platforms. The game is accessible exclusively through Netflix, with store listings indicating a soft launch has already occurred.
Originally released for the Nintendo Switch in 2021, Monster Hunter Rise later expanded to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles. Its arrival on mobile represents a significant expansion for the title, allowing players to experience the hunt on the go. The game is downloaded and run natively on mobile devices, a feat made possible by Capcom's prior experience in scaling the game across various hardware generations.
While largely consistent with its console and PC counterparts, the mobile version includes several adjustments. Challenge and Event Quests, previously distributed as paid or limited-time downloadable content, can now be unlocked through in-game progression. A new Recovery Button has been introduced, which automatically selects the most effective item from a player's inventory based on their current health and status, aiming to streamline combat management.
The game also features reconstructed touch controls designed to work intuitively on smartphones and tablets, incorporating unique control schemes for each weapon type. Visuals have been adapted to display naturally across a variety of screen sizes and aspect ratios.
Might this release signal future Capcom collaborations with Netflix, perhaps bringing other franchises like Phoenix Wright to the service? This move comes as Tencent's Monster Hunter Outlanders, a mobile open-world survival game, is also set to launch later this month, creating an interesting market dynamic for Monster Hunter titles on mobile.
Monster Hunter Rise's sales figures place it in close contention with Monster Hunter World, which has sold an estimated 22.4 million units. Monster Hunter Wilds, released last year, has sold approximately 11 million units, with Capcom anticipating that the Switch 2 version and the upcoming Ascendance DLC will bolster its performance.
