Capcom has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds expansion, Ascendance, during the recent Sony State of Play event. The expansion is slated for release next year.

The trailer features a glimpse of a new elder dragon causing destruction, which inadvertently clears mist to reveal a previously inaccessible region. Players will be able to explore this new area, which includes floating islands, as they hunt monsters. The expansion also introduces a visually updated Nata, a significant character from the base game, who will accompany the player on their journey.

Several new monsters are showcased, including dive-bombing aerial creatures and oily entities that emerge from fallen foes. Fan-favorite elder dragons from previous Monster Hunter titles are also set to make a return in Ascendance. Accompanying these new threats are previews of new weapon skills, designed to offer players fresh combat options.

A teaser at the end of the trailer introduces a new dragon that harnesses storms for its attacks. The full extent of this creature's role and its abilities will be revealed upon the expansion's release.

This reveal follows Capcom's recent early look at changes being implemented for the game's 14 weapon types, information of particular interest to dedicated Monster Hunter players.
