Capcom is removing the controversial practice of charging players to edit their character and Palico's base appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds. Beginning with the game's 2027 expansion, "Ascendance," these changes will be free and unlimited. Previously, players needed to purchase "Character Edit Vouchers" for $6.99 for a pack of three, or $9.99 for a bundle of both hunter and Palico vouchers, to alter their characters after initial creation. While Capcom occasionally provided free vouchers, monetizing this feature was widely criticized.
Capcom will discontinue the sale of these vouchers on December 3, 2026. In preparation for the change, all players will receive 10 free Character Edit Vouchers and 10 free Palico Edit Vouchers. Players who previously purchased any voucher packs will also receive a "Special Thank-You Pendant Set," which includes the Heavenly Hog and Beezleboar.
This move comes as Capcom aims to build hype for the upcoming "Ascendance" expansion, which will introduce a new region, new monsters, and the "Boosted Action" mechanic. The decision may also be influenced by Monster Hunter Wilds' sales performance, which reportedly fell short of Monster Hunter Rise during Capcom's Q2 2025 reporting period. Following the announcement of the voucher changes, Capcom also revealed other quality-of-life updates, including the ability to quick-swap weapons without mounting the Seikret and an enhanced Monster Field Guide that displays specific numerical values for monster weaknesses. The update will also allow for the creation of more comprehensive loadouts.
