Monster Hunter Wilds is set to receive patch 1.042 next week, on August 4th, which will allow players to engage with Event Quests and Challenge Quests offline. These quest types, previously requiring an online connection, are a core component of the game's live service model, featuring rotating missions with unique monster encounters and valuable rewards for gear upgrades.
With this update, all 25 existing Event and Challenge Quests will become accessible without an internet connection. While these quests will continue to rotate on a weekly basis, the Quest Counter will be updated to display all currently available missions at the top, assisting players in keeping track of what is active. The 'Just What the Doctor Ordered' quest has also been added to the offline-capable event quest rotation.
Patch 1.042 will also implement support for transferring save data from the upcoming Prologue Demo, which is scheduled to launch the following day across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players who have started the game with the demo will be able to carry their progress over to the full version, provided no existing save data is present.
Capcom has been actively working to address player feedback and perception surrounding Monster Hunter Wilds. Despite a strong initial sales performance, the game has seen a quicker player retention drop than previous installments on Steam, with player sentiment mixed to negative due to issues ranging from performance problems to perceived lack of challenge. The game's Steam user review score has fluctuated, recently falling back to a 'Mixed' rating from 'Mostly Positive'. As part of ongoing efforts to re-engage the player base, Monster Hunter Wilds will also see a permanent price reduction on August 6th, alongside the introduction of new editions that bundle various add-on content. Further details regarding the major Ascendance expansion, slated for a 2027 release, are expected in the coming months.
