Monster Train 2 Adds New 'The Punished' Clan With a Dark Twist

Monster Train 2 is set to receive its final post-launch update with the addition of a new clan called The Punished. This group, described as dark angels and heavenly outcasts, centers its gameplay around a unique risk-reward mechanic where players convert their own units' suffering into combat power. The DLC will be available on November 10 for $7.99.

Leading The Punished is the playable warrior Archus, Darkness Incarnate, whose abilities leverage the clan's suffering to fuel their strength. The clan's core mechanic, the Monolith, allows players to sacrifice cards to gain Zeal, which in turn buffs units. This system is a novel design space that Shiny Shoe CEO Mark Cooke highlighted as a primary focus, aiming for a unique and engaging experience centered on using self-damage to gain an advantage.

New units revealed include the Reaper of Suffering, a unit with high attack and defense that is initially suppressed. The Scarred Justicar features a new keyword, "Punish," which grants attack buffs, while the Collector of Sorrows possesses an ability called Restitution. Equipment like the Shackles of Spite will also feature, doubling a unit's damage output when their health is at 50% or less, while also providing a health boost.

The Punished DLC will also be available on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch 2, with the latter two platforms slated for release later this year. Monster Train 2 has seen significant player engagement since its 2025 launch, with over one million people having played the game. The studio confirmed that the new clan will be accessible on these mobile and handheld platforms concurrently with its PC release.
