Moonlighter, the popular indie action RPG that combines roguelite dungeon crawling with shop management, is currently free to claim on Steam. The offer is available until August 9, coinciding with the upcoming launch of its sequel, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, next month.

Developed by Digital Sun, Moonlighter originally released in 2018 and quickly became a notable title in the indie game scene. The game tasks players with managing a shop by day and venturing into dangerous, procedurally generated dungeons by night. The goal is to gather valuable items from these dungeons to stock the shop's shelves, requiring players to balance their time between adventuring and commerce.

Players assume the role of Will, an aspiring hero who explores dungeons filled with monsters, collecting relics to sell in the village of Rynoka. Each item's price must be set manually, forcing players to observe customer reactions and strategically determine pricing to maximize profits. Resources gained can then be reinvested into upgrading equipment, improving the shop, and enhancing the village.

Over time, players can upgrade their weapons and armor, granting access to more challenging dungeons and rarer loot. The version of Moonlighter available on Steam today has been expanded since its initial release, with Digital Sun adding new bosses, companions, over 100 additional room layouts, new equipment, expanded lore, and quality-of-life improvements. A New Game+ mode has also been introduced for experienced players.

The giveaway precedes the launch of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, which is set to release on September 2 after a period in Early Access. Early impressions of the sequel have highlighted its expansion on the original's formula with deeper combat, a more vibrant 3D world, and more rewarding progression systems, though further refinements were noted before its full launch.
