Aspyr has confirmed plans to re-release additional classic Lord of the Rings games on contemporary platforms. This announcement follows the recent shadow drop of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition.

In a press release concerning the re-release of War in the North, Aspyr stated that this title is the first Lord of the Rings game released by the studio and that fans can "look forward to even more classic releases by Aspyr from the beloved franchise in the future." While the specific titles remain unannounced, potential candidates include games from the early to mid-2000s, such as the movie tie-in titles from the PlayStation 2 era like The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, or The Lord of the Rings: Conquest. Strategy games like Battle for Middle-earth have also been suggested by fans.

Aspyr has a history of porting games to the Nintendo Switch, leading to speculation that titles such as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War could potentially be brought to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, the possibility of re-releasing games originally published by EA, like those from the early 2000s, may be complicated by licensing rights. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment holds the rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise, but historical game rights can be complex. Aspyr has been contacted for comment regarding the feasibility of re-releasing EA-published titles.
