Developer Cold Symmetry has released the first balance patch for Mortal Shell 2, shortly after its launch today. The update aims to address player feedback by making the in-game economy more forgiving and adjusting enemy and boss difficulty.
The primary focus of the patch is the in-game economy. Shell map locations will now require gloom to access, with any previously spent glimpses being refunded and available in the Shell Keeper's alcove in Blackmarrow. To compensate, enemies will now drop significantly more gold, and those found in Mammon will yield double the previous amount. This adjustment is intended to bring the gold economy in line with weapon crafting item discovery, according to the developers. Furthermore, the cost of smelting weapons at the Tarforge has been reduced by 75%, a change designed to allow players to switch weapons more easily without extensive grinding.
Beyond economic adjustments, the patch restores enemy and boss HP values to their state during the game's beta phase. An exception is the Caerinid (Spider) in Magdelena's area, which retains its higher HP to maintain its role as a challenging, non-respawning foe. Several weapons and tarstones have also received buffs. Players can now use the guard function while walking, and the patch includes a number of bug fixes, crash resolutions, and performance improvements.
These changes come as Mortal Shell 2 receives positive reception. In a review, Jeremy highlighted the game's dungeons, describing them as a significant improvement over the first game, and noted how the title successfully integrates retro-feeling maps into an expansive, interconnected open world.
