Polyarc, the game development studio renowned for its virtual reality action-adventure puzzle series Moss, has officially announced it is shutting down. The closure marks the end of the studio's nearly 12-year operational period.
In a statement posted on its official LinkedIn profile, Polyarc conveyed that its time in game development has concluded. The studio stated, "After nearly 12 years riding the joyous rollercoaster of emotions that is making video games, our time together has come to an end. As we wind down active development, we are saying our farewells to each other. Working together over all of these years has been an honor. Bringing surprise and delight to those who played our games has been a privilege. Thank you to everyone at Polyarc, our work is now finished."
Accompanying the announcement, Polyarc shared a reverse recruiting spreadsheet containing contact information for its employees, facilitating their transition to new roles. The studio's debut title, Moss, released in 2018, was highly praised and stood out as a significant VR release of its time. This was followed by Moss: Book II in 2022. Most recently, in July, Polyarc launched Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a non-VR compilation that integrates both previous Moss titles into a single package.
Polyarc's closure adds to a growing number of studios ceasing operations this year. Notable recent closures include Night School Studio, the creators of Oxenfree; Ivy Road, developer of Wanderstop; Ubisoft's Halifax studio; and Bluepoint Games, known for the Demon's Souls remake.
