It’s a common tale for MMORPG players: the journey begins with a specific character concept, only to be derailed by an accidental click that forever alters the intended path. For one player, this led to the creation of Maldirr, an Orc Warrior in World of Warcraft.
Initially, the plan was to create an Orc Hunter, inspired by countless hours spent watching raid clear videos and browsing Thottbot for legendary weapon names. However, a misclick during character creation resulted in the selection of the Warrior class. The realization dawned only after noticing the absence of a bow. Despite this unplanned beginning, Maldirr became the player's main character for several expansions, wielding the Arms specialization and dealing damage through numerous in-game encounters.
While other characters, like a Worgen rogue, an Undead mage, and a Dwarf shaman, have since captured attention during brief returns to the game, Maldirr holds a special place. Even now, when the allure of World of Warcraft resurfaces, the player makes an effort to level Maldirr a bit for nostalgic reasons. The Orc Warrior still sports the Stone Guard tabard, a memento from countless hours spent in Alterac Valley, and his hair color has been changed from brown to gray over the years, a subtle nod to the passage of time within the game and for the player.
