Bart Simpson's voice actor, Nancy Cartwright, has voiced her personal belief that the long-running animated series The Simpsons may conclude with its 40th season. Cartwright shared this opinion during an appearance on the podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, stating that she anticipates the show ending at that milestone.
The Simpsons first premiered in 1989, introducing viewers to the Simpson family and the town of Springfield. The franchise has since expanded beyond television, encompassing a feature film and video games.
Cartwright indicated that her view is based on the show's current trajectory and renewals. While she expressed willingness to continue as long as the cast and crew remain able and the show continues to be renewed, her current expectation points to Season 40 as a potential endpoint. This aligns with Fox's previous renewal of the series up to that season.
The future of The Simpsons also includes The Simpsons Movie 2, which reportedly has a release date set for July 23, 2027. Despite potential conclusions for the series, showrunner Matt Selman has previously suggested that the show would not have an ordinary finale.
