Naughty Dog has announced that principal motion capture filming for its upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, has concluded. The news was shared via the studio's social media channels, featuring an image of lead actor Tati Gabrielle in her motion capture suit holding a prop weapon.

This milestone signifies a significant step in the game's development. However, the exact stage of Intergalactic's overall progress remains undisclosed. Reports have previously suggested a 2027 release window for the title. This timing aligns with the development cycles of previous Naughty Dog titles; for instance, motion capture for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End concluded in October 2015, with the game launching in May of the following year.

Given that a large portion of Naughty Dog's resources were reportedly dedicated to The Last of Us Online until its cancellation in 2023, it is considered unlikely that Intergalactic is as far along in development as the Uncharted 4 example might suggest. Nevertheless, the completion of motion capture is a major step forward, and fans are anticipating further updates.

Sony is scheduled to host a State of Play showcase on September 3. While some speculation suggests Intergalactic could be featured, the timing of Naughty Dog's announcement may also be an effort to preemptively address potential rumors or speculation if the game does not appear at the event. Industry insider NateTheHate has indicated that the game might be targeting a release in the latter half of 2027.

Naughty Dog's most recent original game release was The Last of Us Part II in 2020. Since then, the studio has focused on remasters and ports of existing titles, including The Last of Us and the Uncharted collection for PS4. The development of a live-service multiplayer game set in The Last of Us universe was also reportedly canceled in 2023.
