Naughty Dog is working on two new projects set within The Last of Us universe, studio head Neil Druckmann announced. Both games are in the early stages of development and aim to expand the existing canon.
Druckmann stated that the studio "wouldn’t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say," indicating a deliberate approach to continuing the franchise. Details about whether either project will be The Last of Us Part 3 remain undisclosed, with Druckmann emphasizing that the early stage of development means information is tightly guarded. The announcement was made around The Last of Us Day, celebrated on September 26, a date significant to the game's lore.
In addition to the new Last of Us titles, Druckmann provided an update on Naughty Dog's current main project, the sci-fi game previously known as Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The studio plans a full reveal for this title in 2027. Druckmann acknowledged the long silence surrounding the project, assuring fans that the additional development time is intended to create a product worthy of their patience.
Separately, production on the third season of HBO's The Last of Us television adaptation is progressing. Reports indicate that some voice actors from the game have joined the TV cast. Showrunner Craig Mazin is reportedly considering condensing the planned four-season arc into three seasons.
