NBA 2K27 has once again claimed the top spot as the best-selling game for August 2026, according to Circana's monthly report. This marks a continuation of the basketball simulation's sales dominance, following similar performances in August 2024 and 2025, which had previously ended a long winning streak for EA's Madden NFL series.
Madden NFL 27 secured the second and fourth positions on the sales chart, with its Kickoff Bundle version also appearing among the top sellers. The month proved strong for new game releases, with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls debuting at third place. Star Wars Zero Company followed at fifth, and Big Walk entered the chart at eighth. In total, five of the top 10 best-selling games in August were newly released titles. Other notable entries in the top 10 included Halo: Campaign Evolved, Elden Ring (a Switch 2 port), Mario Kart World, and Splatoon Raiders.
While NBA 2K27 has now entered the year-to-date best-selling game charts for 2026, the current leader, Resident Evil Requiem, remains in its position. NBA 2K27 has surpassed Crimson Desert to take the third spot on the year-to-date list, with titles like 007 First Light and MLB The Show 26 holding their respective rankings. Minor shifts have occurred within the overall top-selling games for the year, but the rankings are largely stable for now.
Industry analysts anticipate significant changes to these rankings as data from the busy September and October release periods is compiled. The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is also expected to be a major sales force upon its release in November.
