NBA 2K27 has overtaken Resident Evil Requiem to become the best-selling game of 2026 in the United States year-to-date. The milestone was achieved as September's sales figures were tallied, with eight of the top ten best-selling titles for the month being new releases.
While Marvel's Wolverine was the top-selling game in September, NBA 2K27's strong overall performance throughout the year secured its leading position. The NBA 2K series is a consistent top performer in the US market, frequently ranking among the top five best-selling games annually, alongside other major sports franchises like Madden NFL. Historically, the Call of Duty series has often held the top spot, though recent years have seen other titles like Hogwarts Legacy in 2023 and Battlefield 6 in 2025 disrupt this trend.
Analysts anticipate that Grand Theft Auto 6, slated for a November 2026 release, may challenge for the top sales position by year's end.
Meanwhile, Resident Evil Requiem has also achieved significant success. It stands as the fastest-selling game in the franchise's history, reaching five million copies sold in its first five days and six million within two weeks. In terms of dollar sales, Requiem ranks among the top five best-selling Resident Evil games in the US. It also leads as the best-selling physical game on the PlayStation 5 for 2026, with estimates suggesting 1.3 million discs have been sold.
The top ten best-selling games in the US for September, based on physical and full-game digital dollar sales, are as follows:
- NBA 2K27
- Resident Evil: Requiem
- 007 First Light
- MLB: The Show 26
- Crimson Desert
- Call of Duty: Black Ops II
- Forza Horizon 6
- Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
- Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
- Pokemon: Pokopia
