Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action series based on Atlus' supernatural teen life simulation RPG franchise, Persona. The information comes from sources speaking with Variety, though the streamer declined to comment on the report.
Details regarding which specific Persona game or characters the series might focus on remain undisclosed. It is also unclear if the show will adapt existing storylines or present a new narrative within the Persona universe. This news follows Atlus' official tease of the next installment in the series, Persona 6, earlier this month.
Christopher Monfette is attached to the project as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Monfette's previous writing and production credits include shows such as "9-1-1" for Fox and ABC, and "Star Trek Picard" for Paramount.
Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood are also slated to executive produce through their company 21 Laps, known for producing "Backrooms." Levy's directing credits include "Deadpool & Wolverine," and his upcoming film is "Star Wars: Starfighter." Story Kitchen is also involved in the production.
The project is said to be in the early stages of development, meaning it could still fall apart. Should it proceed, the Persona series would join Netflix's growing catalog of video game adaptations, which includes "The Witcher," "Arcane," and the upcoming second season of "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners."
