Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action television series based on the Persona video game franchise, according to Variety. Christopher Monfette, known for his work on "Star Trek: Picard" and "12 Monkeys," is slated to serve as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer.
Toru Nakahara, a senior executive officer at Sega and producer on the "Sonic the Hedgehog" film adaptations, is attached as an executive producer for the project. Netflix has not yet officially commented on the report.
This potential adaptation arrives as the Persona franchise has seen renewed attention. Atlus recently revealed a release date for "Persona 4 Revival," a remake of the acclaimed role-playing game, and has announced "Persona 6."
Netflix has a growing slate of video game adaptations. The company recently debuted the first full trailer for "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2" and has a live-action "Assassin's Creed" series in development. Additionally, Netflix is producing films based on "Gears of War" and "BioShock," and is collaborating with developer Don't Nod on an unannounced project.
