Netflix is reportedly in the process of adapting Atlus's Persona video game franchise into a series for its streaming platform, according to a report from Variety citing unnamed sources. The Persona series, known for its blend of social simulation and dungeon-crawling RPG elements, has a history of transmedia adaptations, including numerous anime series, manga, and novels.

Details surrounding the potential Netflix adaptation are sparse, as the deal has not been officially announced. It remains unclear which specific Persona games, if any, would be the basis for the new series. However, the involvement of production company Story Kitchen, which previously helped adapt Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog into successful films, suggests a potentially high-profile project. Story Kitchen executives Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson are expected to produce, alongside Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps Inc., with Christopher Monfette attached as writer, producer, and showrunner. Toru Nakahara from Sega will also reportedly serve in a production capacity.

This reported move by Netflix comes at a significant time for the Persona franchise. Atlus recently announced Persona 6 and has been celebrating the series' 30th anniversary. A major streaming adaptation could be a substantial addition to the franchise's ongoing multimedia presence.
