A new cloud-streaming application, Asobi: Remote Play, has entered public testing, enabling users to stream PlayStation Plus Premium games directly to their Steam Deck and other SteamOS or Linux devices without the need for a physical PlayStation 5. The app is not affiliated with Sony or Valve.

This development expands the capabilities for Steam Deck owners, as local streaming from a user's own PS4 or PS5 to a handheld device has been possible with similar applications for some time. However, Asobi: Remote Play's integration with PS Plus Premium's cloud catalog represents a new avenue for accessing a wider library of PlayStation titles on the go. Previously, accessing these cloud-streamed games without a PS5 required alternative hardware like the PlayStation Portal, which retails for approximately £220.

The playtest, announced by developer Ichenzo on the app's subreddit, is currently distributing invites via email to those who have signed up. During the playtest period, all premium features, including 60fps, HDR, controller haptics, 4K upscaling, and manual bitrate control, are unlocked for free. Following the playtest, the free version is expected to revert to a 1080p/30fps limit, with pricing for a full premium unlock yet to be announced.

The application is designed for seamless integration, allowing users to stream games directly within Steam without needing to exit to the desktop mode. While a Windows version is planned and anticipated "soonish," it is not yet available. The core functionality of streaming from a user's own console remains available even without a PS Plus Premium subscription.
