Disney Imagineers have announced that the upcoming Indiana Jones attraction at Animal Kingdom, titled Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, will feature an animatronic directly modeled after actor Harrison Ford. This marks the first time Ford's likeness will be used for an Indiana Jones animatronic in a Disney park attraction. Ford confirmed his involvement via a video message shown at D23.
The attraction will follow Indiana Jones as he explores the ruins of an ancient Maya temple guarded by a serpent deity. The narrative involves Indy and park guests being drawn into the underworld, culminating in an escape sequence. Disney stated that the development team collaborated with experts in Maya archaeology and anthropology to ensure cultural accuracy. While the announcement specified Ford as the model for the animatronic, it remains unclear if he will also provide voice-over work for the character. The article notes that Troy Baker provided a notable impression of Indiana Jones in the game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent is slated for the Tropical Americas expansion at Animal Kingdom. This expansion will also include an attraction inspired by Disney's Encanto and a carousel named El Carrusel de los Animalitos, featuring various Disney and Pixar characters. A specific opening date for the Indiana Jones ride has not yet been announced.
