Speculation surrounding a new entry in Xbox's Ori series has intensified, with reliable industry insiders hinting at an upcoming announcement. Leaks suggest that a new Ori game is in development by a third-party studio, potentially indicating a surprise sequel.

Industry insider Nate the Hate first teased a significant Xbox announcement slated for Gamescom. Further details emerged on ResetEra forums, pointing towards a new Ori title being developed by a studio other than Moon Studios, the original creators.

Jez Corden of Windows Central corroborated these rumors on his Patreon, stating that Xbox has major announcements planned for Gamescom and that a "pretty big surprise (probably very unexpected sequel) reveal" might occur. Corden also indicated that the game would not be a new Banjo-Kazooie title, a popular misconception he sought to prevent.

Nate the Hate has since confirmed that he was referring to a new Ori game, though he could not yet confirm if it would be revealed at Gamescom. He also noted that the choice of developers being handed the IP was particularly intriguing. Elsewhere, a ResetEra user named Kiri_Kis557 reported hearing that the game is being developed by "one of Saber Interactive's divisions," although this remains unconfirmed.

Moon Studios developed the critically acclaimed Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, both known for their stunning visuals and Metroidvania gameplay. However, the studio has stated its Ori story felt complete for now, and they are currently focused on their new title, No Rest for the Wicked. This has not apparently stopped Xbox from pursuing a new Ori game with external developers.

All eyes are now on Gamescom Opening Night Live for a potential reveal, though the leakers themselves are uncertain about its inclusion. Nate the Hate has suggested that a 2026 release window could be on the horizon, implying that an official announcement may be necessary in the near future.
