The eighth film in the Paranormal Activity series is slated for release on May 21, 2027, marking the franchise's return to its original setting. The upcoming installment will be set in the same house featured in the 2007 original film, drawing inspiration from the franchise's beginnings.
Jason Blum, a key figure at Blumhouse, expressed his personal connection to the Paranormal Activity franchise, noting its significance in establishing the production company. After a period of perceived overexposure, the franchise was revitalized through a collaboration with Atomic Monster's James Wan. Original director Oren Peli is also returning to produce the new film alongside Blum and Wan.
Details regarding the plot and cast remain scarce, but the decision to return to the original house suggests a thematic callback to the early entries. While the fates of original characters Micah and Katie were dire in the first film, their presence, or perhaps their lingering influence, could play a role.
Ian Tuason of Undertone is set to direct the new Paranormal Activity film. This announcement was part of a larger presentation of upcoming horror projects from Blumhouse at New York Comic Con.
Other Blumhouse projects revealed include a new Saw film, directed by Mike P. Nelson and intended to align more closely with the original 2004 movie, featuring involvement from James Wan and Leigh Whannell. The studio is also adapting the horror comic book Something Is Killing the Children with director Craig Zobel, and developing The Exorcist: Martyrs with director Mike Flanagan, which received a trailer and is scheduled for a March 12, 2027 theatrical release.
Further announcements included LaKeith Stanfield starring in a movie titled Molepeople, Kristen Bell reprising her role as Ms. Klaus in Violent Night 2, and MatPat developing an Amanda the Adventurer film with Blumhouse. The premiere schedule also indicated that Curry Barker's next film, Anything But Ghosts, will debut on May 7, 2027, and a new Blair Witch Project movie is set for September 24, 2027. The absence of Five Nights at Freddy's 3 from the schedule suggests its release date is still uncertain or beyond 2027.
