A new system software update for the PlayStation 5 is now available, bringing with it features designed to enhance game discovery and improve social interactions. Version 26.06-14.00.00 introduces new widgets to the Welcome Hub, offering players insights into what titles are currently popular and trending within their region.
Two new widgets have been added to the Welcome Hub. The "Trending Now" feature highlights the top ten multiplayer games or modes that are experiencing a surge in popularity, aiming to surface new releases or older titles with significant content updates. Complementing this is a "Top 10" list that displays the most popular games in a player's specific region over the past seven days. It remains to be seen whether these lists update on a weekly or rolling basis, but this marks the first time PlayStation has offered this type of direct popularity tracking, moving beyond the traditional PlayStation Store best-seller lists.
In addition to the new widgets, the update also includes a "Display Who's Speaking" option for party chats. Users can access this feature through the control center's "select more" section. Once enabled, the username of the active speaker will flash on screen, with options to adjust its position. This aims to make it easier to follow conversations in group chats.
For users with the PS5 Pro, the update also enables the Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting by default. As with most system software updates, this release also includes general improvements to system software performance and stability.
