A newly released Spanish-language teaser trailer for Zach Cregger's upcoming Resident Evil movie has offered a glimpse of a creature that bears a striking resemblance to the Las Plagas parasite from Resident Evil 4. The footage, which surfaced on September 4, 2026, depicts a hospital's maternity ward seemingly overrun by a fleshy substance. In one scene, a corpse's feet are shown being enveloped by thin, vine-like growths, before the body itself animates with a vine protruding from its cheek, much to the horror of a character named Bryan Hodukavich.
These visual elements have quickly drawn comparisons to Las Plagas, the parasitic organism featured in Resident Evil 4, known for its tentacle-based mutations that transform hosts into terrifying entities. Director Zach Cregger has previously stated that Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 have been significant influences on his approach to the film. He expressed a liking for "borrowing the rhythm and scale from [Resident Evil] 4" while incorporating character elements from "7," particularly the experience of an ordinary individual navigating a horrific situation, akin to Ethan's journey in RE7. Cregger also cited the pacing of RE4, with its progression through distinct environments like a village, castle, and island, as a key inspiration.
The film's official social media channels also shared a promotional poster featuring an X-ray image of a Doberman Pinscher, a breed famously featured in earlier Resident Evil games. The caption, "The subject is… changing," suggests the animal may have been infected with the T-Virus, serving as another callback to the series' established lore.
Cregger's Resident Evil film aims to tell a new story centered on an "average Joe" caught in the Raccoon City Incident. While Cregger has been candid about his intention to avoid a direct adaptation of the games, opting instead to forge a new narrative, he has acknowledged that fans may be hesitant given his departure from a one-to-one recreation of the source material.
