A new report from The Wall Street Journal indicates that Roy Lee, the producer behind Zach Cregger's critically and commercially successful Resident Evil film, is now attached to a new Silent Hill movie project.
Lee has a notable track record in adapting pre-existing intellectual property, particularly within the horror genre. His past credits include films such as The Grudge and The Ring, as well as Cregger's recent movies Barbarian and Weapons. The 2026 Resident Evil adaptation, produced by Lee, has achieved the status of the most successful film adaptation of Capcom's game series and holds the title of the highest-rated video game movie to date.
According to The Wall Street Journal's feature on Lee published September 20, he has approximately 20 film and television adaptations of video games in various stages of development or production. Among these upcoming projects are Prime Video's God of War series and Michael B. Jordan's Battlefield movie. The report also specifically mentions "Japanese horror classic Silent Hill."
While Konami has not officially confirmed a new Silent Hill film, the company has shown renewed interest in the franchise, releasing two well-received games in the past two years. Producer Motoi Okamoto has previously stated Konami's ambition to release a new game in the series annually. This recent push to reinvigorate its properties, including Castlevania, suggests a fertile ground for further Silent Hill media.
This development follows the release of the 2023 film Return to Silent Hill, which received a lukewarm reception from critics and fans alike. IGN's review scored the movie a five out of 10, noting that it failed to surpass the strengths of its source material.
With Roy Lee's involvement, there is cautious optimism for a fresh and potentially more faithful take on the Silent Hill universe.
