Naughty Dog, the studio behind the Uncharted series, is reportedly in the early stages of development for a new game in the franchise. The upcoming title is said to be a fresh entry and not a remake of any previous games.
According to a report from MP1st, the game may bring back series protagonist Nathan Drake in some capacity, though it's suggested he might not be the sole lead. The project is reportedly being directed by Shaun Escayg, a veteran of the studio who previously directed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Insider NateTheHate has corroborated these reports, indicating that Escayag is indeed working on a new Uncharted title.
Escayag had previously left Naughty Dog for Crystal Dynamics to serve as creative director for Marvel's Avengers before returning to Naughty Dog for an unannounced project, which now appears to be this new Uncharted game.
If the game continues the narrative from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, it's possible that the adventure could focus on Drake and Elena Fisher's daughter, Cassie, who was introduced at the end of that title.
Naughty Dog is expected to focus on this new Uncharted game after completing their current main project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This project is slated for a full reveal in 2027, with a potential release in the same year. Given this timeline, the new Uncharted game is not anticipated to arrive for some time.
The last installment in the Uncharted series was The Lost Legacy in 2017, a spin-off of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. The franchise also saw a re-release in 2022.
