Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that the next installment in the God of War series is in development and will feature Kratos as the primary playable character. This was revealed by studio head of creative Cory Barlog during a God of War Laufey panel at San Diego Comic Con.
Barlog also stated that this upcoming Kratos-led game will directly tie into the events of the previously announced God of War Laufey, a title that focuses on Faye, Kratos’ late wife. While Kratos may not be the main protagonist in Laufey, he has appeared in early gameplay trailers for the game and is expected to have a significant role given Faye's objective to aid him and Atreus from the afterlife.
Though the next Kratos-centric God of War game is confirmed, it is likely still many years away. God of War Laufey has yet to receive a release date, and there are also rumors of a God of War trilogy remake that could potentially release before the new Kratos title. Santa Monica Studio previously indicated that Kratos would not be absent from the series following the events of God of War Ragnarök, with Faye's story serving as a bridge to his future adventures.
