Nicolas Cage Arrives in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone with Mid-Season Update

Nicolas Cage has entered the Call of Duty universe, appearing as a playable operator in the mid-season update for Season 4 of Black Ops 7 and Warzone. The update, which launched on Thursday, June 25th, is available for free across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This addition brings the actor into the games not as a specific character, but as himself, complete with his signature style.

The Summer of Action campaign continues with this update, introducing a new, limited-time event pass. This pass features a series of challenges that grant players cosmetic and gameplay rewards, with Nicolas Cage himself exclusively available through the premium track. A red leather jacket skin for the actor is also part of the bundle, though not prominently featured in promotional materials. The campaign also includes a daily login event.

Beyond the celebrity operator, the update adds a variety of content for both Black Ops 7 and Warzone. Players can expect new maps for multiplayer and Zombies modes, alongside returning game modes, a new weapon, and fresh weapon attachments. Warzone receives a summery visual overhaul for its battle royale map, and Black Ops 7's open-world Zombies mode, Endgame, remains free to play until the end of Season 5. Furthermore, a free trial offering access to multiplayer and Zombies modes is set to begin soon, likely coinciding with the update's release.

This marks Nicolas Cage's second foray into video games, following his appearance as a playable survivor in the 2023 asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror title, Dead by Daylight, where he also portrayed himself.

However, this kind of high-profile, celebrity collaboration may become less common in mainline Call of Duty titles moving forward. Activision and developer Infinity Ward have indicated that the upcoming Modern Warfare 4 will steer away from what they describe as "cartoony or celebrity collaboration skins." The developers have emphasized that post-launch cosmetics for Modern Warfare 4 will "need to feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is," suggesting a shift in aesthetic direction away from the playful crossovers seen in recent years. Modern Warfare 4 is slated for release on October 23rd for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Nicolas Cage operator skin will not transfer to the new title.
