Square Enix is expanding the presence of its acclaimed RPG Nier: Automata through a new crossover with the multiplayer survival horror game Dead by Daylight. The collaboration, which officially launched on October 6, brings three characters from the Nier universe into Dead by Daylight's world.
Developer Behaviour Interactive announced the partnership via social media, with creative director Dave Richard highlighting the thematic resonance between the two franchises. "Beyond the amazing characters and incredible visuals, there's a definite connection between the themes of our two universes, both dealing with cycles of violence and suffering," Richard stated. "Bringing 2B, A2, and Emil into The Fog gave us a chance to help celebrate what makes Nier: Automata so special to us."
This crossover introduces Legendary Outfits for existing Dead by Daylight characters. Feng Min will receive a 2B skin, and Yui Kimura will be outfitted as A2. These outfits include unique music, voice lines, HUD icons, and menu idle animations. Additionally, The Legion will receive a Very Rare Outfit inspired by Emil, a character from Nier. The collection also features an appearance by Pod 042, and legendary portraits of 2B and A2.
While Nier: Automata has not seen a direct sequel, Square Enix has pursued various cross-promotional opportunities. Series creator Yoko Taro has previously joked that these collaborations are driven by financial incentives. Although a mobile game, Nier: Reincarnation, served as a narrative continuation, it concluded service in 2024. Despite canceled projects in recent years, fans continue to hope for a future installment in the Nier series.
