Nintendo Discusses Grand Theft Auto VI Possibility on Switch 2

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard recently addressed the possibility of Grand Theft Auto VI launching on the forthcoming Switch 2 console. When asked directly about a potential GTA 6 port, Pritchard stated, "That's going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time."

The Switch 2 is expected to offer increased power compared to its predecessor, potentially enabling it to run more demanding third-party titles that previously skipped Nintendo platforms. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and a recent remaster of The Witcher 3 have been cited as examples of titles that could potentially run on the new hardware. However, the question remains whether Rockstar Games would opt to release a version of GTA 6, which is also slated for release on the less powerful Xbox Series S.

Rockstar Games has previously released titles on the Switch, including Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, and L.A. Noire. As of now, there has been no announcement regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA 6 for the platform.

Pritchard reiterated Nintendo's commitment to offering a diverse range of gaming experiences for all ages, stating, "We have historically said that Nintendo is for ages 5 to 95, and that continues to be true. We want to provide a diversity in terms of the types of experiences that you can have on the game system, and that's really important for us."

The upcoming launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on November 5, shortly before GTA 6's release, has drawn parallels to a "Barbenheimer"-like gaming event, as parodied in a recent Saturday Night Live skit. This pairing of major releases highlights what is perceived as a strong year for video games, with a wide array of titles across various genres.

The current console generation has seen developers mastering the capabilities of the hardware, leading to a high standard of game experiences. The anticipation now turns to whether Rockstar Games will bring its highly anticipated GTA 6 to the Switch 2, making the title accessible on Nintendo's next-generation portable console.
