Nintendo has unveiled a special edition console to commemorate the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition console is scheduled to launch on October 29, arriving a week before the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on November 5. This marks the first distinct special-edition Switch 2 console since its debut over a year ago. The console's design includes a gold Triforce emblem on the dock and forest-green Joy-Con controllers, which also feature subtle Triforce designs.
This release also signifies the first time since the new console's shipment that Nintendo is offering Joy-Cons in colors other than black. Previously, a pair of purple and mint Joy-Cons were released for Splatoon Raiders but were described as uninspired. The anniversary lineup extends beyond the console, with Nintendo also releasing a Zelda-themed Switch 2 Pro controller and a Switch 2 carrying case. Both accessories incorporate similar Triforce color schemes and iconography, adding to the collection's aesthetic appeal, though official pricing has not yet been announced.
In addition to the hardware, new amiibo figures for Ocarina of Time are also part of the 40th-anniversary celebration. The amiibo depict a young Link and a young Zelda and have been highlighted as some of Nintendo's most visually impressive amiibo to date, despite some players expressing reservations about the graphical style of the Ocarina of Time remake. The remake itself will be sold separately from the special edition console.
