Nintendo is preparing a significant event for fans in September 2026, with two Nintendo Direct presentations scheduled on consecutive days. The first, a special showcase celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, will air on Tuesday, September 8, at 7am PT / 10am ET / 4pm CEST. This presentation is expected to last approximately 30 minutes and will focus on delivering "a variety of information related to The Legend of Zelda."
Following the Zelda-centric event, a general Nintendo Direct will be broadcast on Wednesday, September 9, at the same time: 7am PT / 10am ET / 4pm CEST. This second presentation will highlight "Nintendo Switch 2 games launching this winter," though it is common for such announcements to extend beyond that immediate timeframe.
Both presentations will be preceded by IGN watch parties starting five minutes before the official start times. Post-show discussions featuring Zelda experts and general Nintendo news breakdowns will also be available on IGN after each Direct concludes. Live blogs covering all the announcements will be hosted by IGN as well.
While Nintendo has not revealed specific content, expectations for the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct include a significant look at the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake, which is slated for release later this year, and its official release date. There is also anticipation for a formal reveal of The Legend of Zelda movie, scheduled for release in April, potentially with casting news or a film clip. The addition of Twilight Princess to the Nintendo Switch Online service is also a hoped-for announcement, as it is currently the only 3D Zelda title not accessible on the Switch in some capacity.
For the general Nintendo Direct, updates are anticipated for other 2026 titles such as Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. There is also speculation about details on The Duskbloods, which has a 2026 release window but no firm date. Furthermore, a glimpse of Xenoblade Genesis, the next installment in Monolith Soft's RPG series due in 2027, may be provided.
