Nintendo may be planning an upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2's LCD screen, a component that has drawn criticism for its perceived shortcomings. Recent evidence suggests that the Japanese electronics company Sharp could be supplying a new panel for the upcoming console, potentially replacing the InnoLux-manufactured screen currently in use.
The visual evidence, originating from a Chinese resale site, indicates that the new screen features distinct internal components, including a different circuit, connector, and cables. This suggests a redesign rather than a minor revision. Nintendo Everything's report highlights that Sharp recently noted expanded sales for mobile applications starting in September 2025, aligning with potential Switch 2 release timelines.
Nintendo Patents Watch on Bluesky also corroborated the differences observed in the leaked images, noting that the exposed circuit, connector, and cables are significantly distinct. While the current InnoLux panel already utilizes Sharp's low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) glass, the extent of any quality improvement remains unclear. However, the changes to internal components suggest a more substantial alteration.
Players have expressed hope that an upgraded screen will address issues such as poor response times, which can result in blurry visuals during fast-paced gameplay in handheld mode. These problems can become more apparent when switching between different displays or comparing with older portable devices.
Separately, Nintendo is also preparing to launch a new Switch 2 model in Europe that will allow users to replace the battery, in compliance with new European directives. It remains to be seen whether these two updates—a potential screen enhancement and the user-replaceable battery—will be integrated into a single European model or if multiple new versions of the console will be released. Nintendo has not yet officially commented on these developments.
