Nintendo's latest quarterly financial report, covering April 1 to June 30, reveals a substantial drop in Nintendo Switch 2 console sales compared to the same period last year. The company sold 3.82 million Switch 2 units during this quarter, a significant decrease from the 5.82 million units sold in the June 2025 launch quarter. This decline is attributed to the waning initial hype and demand that fueled the Switch 2's record-breaking launch.
Despite the quarterly dip, the Switch 2 has sold 23.68 million units in its first 13 months, surpassing the original Switch's 17.79 million units sold in the equivalent timeframe. The Wii console reached over 20 million units sold in its first year. Nintendo projects sales of an additional 12.68 million Switch 2 consoles over the next three quarters, aiming for a total of 16.5 million units for the current financial year and 36.35 million lifetime sales.
Software revenue saw an increase year-over-year, bolstered by new releases and a growing player base. Mario Kart World has achieved 15.39 million sales, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream sold 7.96 million copies in its first three months, Kirby Air Riders reached 1.9 million sales, and the Switch 2 version of Super Mario Party Jamboree has sold 1.15 million units. While exact figures for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Star Fox are not yet public, Nintendo indicates they are performing as expected.
Older titles continue to demonstrate strong performance. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold an additional 450,000 units last quarter, bringing its lifetime total to 71.53 million. Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate each sold 380,000 units, further boosting their already impressive lifetime sales.
Nintendo also reported that digital sales now account for 61.5% of all sales, an increase of approximately 2%. This comes amidst broader industry discussions about a potential shift towards digital-only game distribution.
Looking ahead, Nintendo has several major Switch 2 titles planned for release in 2026, including Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave on September 17, Switch Sports Resort on October 22, and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time before the end of the year.
