Nintendo has released system update version 23.0.0 for the Nintendo Switch 2, introducing Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for when the console is docked. This enhancement aims to reduce visual anomalies such as screen tearing and stuttering by synchronizing the game's frame rate with the display's refresh rate.

To utilize VRR, users must ensure that both their television or monitor and the game software being played are compatible with the technology. The feature can be enabled through the Display settings menu after updating the Switch 2's dock firmware. The update also brings improvements to data management, allowing for complete data transfer between two Switch 2 consoles for easier upgrades or save file preservation. Additionally, users can now play music in the background while editing Miis, with simple controls to change or stop the audio.

This update follows recent Nintendo Direct presentations, one of which revealed gameplay for a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and another that showcased titles like Metroid Ravenous.
