Nintendo has released system update version 23.0.0 for the Switch 2, which reintroduces music to the Mii Maker feature, a change some players have been hoping for. When creating or editing a Mii, the familiar Mii Channel music from the original Wii console now plays in the background. Additionally, a music settings button allows players to switch between this track and music inspired by the Mii Makers from the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
This update addresses a sentiment among some Nintendo fans that the company's platforms have lacked personality due to the absence of background music and visual themes. While this particular addition is small, it is being seen as a positive gesture towards players who appreciate these nostalgic touches. However, both Switch consoles still do not feature background music or visual themes in their respective eShops. Nintendo previously cited the need to save processing power and ensure quick UI navigation for the first Switch as reasons for omitting these elements. The inclusion of Mii music on the Switch 2 suggests the console may have additional resources to accommodate such features.
The version 23.0.0 update also introduces the ability to share Miis via QR codes. Although Miis may not hold the same central importance for Nintendo as they once did, they remain a recognizable part of Nintendo's gaming identity, appearing in titles such as Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.
Further enhancements in this firmware update include a quick setting for the Switch 2's handheld boost mode and support for variable refresh rate technology. As is customary with most system updates, the patch also includes general stability improvements.
