Nintendo is releasing new hardware to commemorate both The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary and the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The new Zelda-themed hardware lineup is set to arrive on October 29, one week before the Ocarina of Time remake launches.
Amid high anticipation for the remake, the special edition hardware is experiencing extremely high demand, with pre-orders for most items already sold out.

Unveiled in September during a Nintendo Direct showcase, the controllers and Switch 2 console feature a color scheme of black, gold, and green, evoking the franchise's protagonist, Link, and the Triforce of Courage. The console and controllers are adorned with triangular decals surrounding a Triforce symbol and the Hylian Crest. While the console and controllers are sold separately, purchasing the console grants access to a set of themed Joy-Con 2 controllers. Additionally, Nintendo is releasing a special carrying case and screen protector designed to maintain the console's appearance. The Pro Controller comes with a display stand featuring a Hyrule Castle design.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition console is priced at $519.99. Pre-orders for this console are currently sold out.
A Nintendo-exclusive version of the Pro Controller, available through Nintendo's online store and physical retailers, includes a display stand and costs $109.99, which is $10 more than the standard Pro Controller. This version is also sold out.
A standard version of the controller is available for $99.99, also $10 above the typical Pro Controller price, and is currently sold out.
A Zelda-themed carrying case and screen protector set will be sold for $39.99 and launches alongside the other accessories. Pre-orders for this bundle are also sold out.
These special edition releases coincide with Nintendo's decision to increase the price of the standard Switch 2 to $499.99. Earlier in 2025, the company also raised prices for the Nintendo Switch and its Lite and OLED variants, attributing these adjustments to an AI-driven component shortage affecting the gaming industry. While some consumers have expressed dissatisfaction with paying more for hardware that does not match the power of competing consoles, special variants like this are intended to help mitigate negative reception.
The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake is scheduled for release on November 5. Nintendo recently showcased the capabilities of the Switch 2 by revealing gameplay from its reimagining of the Nintendo 64 classic.
In related news, Nintendo concluded filming in spring 2026 for The Legend of Zelda film, starring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. The film, a collaboration between Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, is rumored to feature Sam Neill's final performance, though his specific role has not yet been revealed.
