Owners of the newly released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time edition Nintendo Switch 2 console are discovering a subtle Easter egg hidden within the hardware. This detail, a pixel art depiction of Link and Zelda holding Triforce pieces, is found on the underside of the console's dock cover. Above the characters, 16 heart containers are imprinted, mirroring the maximum health capacity in the original NES version of The Legend of Zelda.
This hidden design element was not prominently featured in the console's reveal trailer or during its initial product listing on the Nintendo store, leading many fans to discover it only after unboxing their consoles. While the console itself sports Triforce decals and a distinctive green-and-gold color scheme, this small addition offers a nod to the series' origins.
Nintendo has a history of incorporating similar Easter eggs into its hardware. Previous examples include a hidden Triforce on the Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda and retro coin designs on the back of the Mario Red Edition Switch. The current Zelda 40th Anniversary Collection extends this practice, with other commemorative items also featuring nostalgic designs. The Pro Controller for this edition includes pixel art of a retro Link in mid-attack on its back. Additionally, the carrying case for the anniversary edition comes with a microfiber cloth embossed with more classic Legend of Zelda pixel art.
The Zelda Switch 2 console edition had a challenging launch, with widespread overselling by major retailers. Despite these initial stock issues, pre-orders for the coveted hardware continue to sell out rapidly, underscoring the high demand among fans.
